Over the years, Bryan Adams has written many songs that have become successful, but many are the result of a fruitful partnership with another Canadian composer. As Elton John and Bernie Taupin as Meat Loaf Jim Steinman, Bryan Adams had a chance to take a long long way with Jim Vallance.
Vallance, 62, was the drummer of the rock group Prism before earning his living as a songwriter. He had, however, need an artist to promote his songs and then he did in 1977 met a young musician of 18 years, Bryan Adams, who had also left his group Sweeney Todd.
The beginnings of the partnership have not been easy since Adams has struggled to attract the interest of record companies as a solo artist. The duo eventually signed his first contract on A & M Records to compose music for other artists, including Wastin 'Time for group Bachman Turner Overdrive Manitoba and Take it or Leave It to the former group Vallance, Prism.
At the same time, Adams and Vallance wrote parts of the first album the second, launched in 1980 without winning a big success, then the second, launched in 1981 and has finally reached gold certification after a few years.
In 1982, the musician Ian Lloyd, singer Bonnie Raitt and the hard rock band Kiss who appealed to the pair. Six of their parts were used by American singer Bonnie Raitt has recorded the piece No Way to Treat a Lady, while masked musicians engraved War Machine and Rock 'n Roll Hell on their album Creatures of the Night.

These collaborations would lay the groundwork for an alliance that would eventually make Adams a superstar beyond Canadian borders. The album Cuts Like a Knife, launched in 1983, has nine collaborations Vallance-Adams in ten parts and Kiss drummer Eric Carr, even came to reciprocate duo participating in the writing Do not Leave Me Lonely.
Ironically, it is the ballad Straight from the Heart Adams had written alone with his friend Eric Kagna which has been the most popular piece, reaching the top 10 of the Billboard charts. Two other pieces, the title track and This Time, would pierce the Billboard Hot 100, while the third installment Adams reached number 8 in the album charts.
It is however in November 1984 the heyday of two Canadians would happen. Adams Reckless had just published an album with ten tracks are all from his pen and that of Vallance. Run to You, Summer of '69, Heaven, One Night Love Affair, Somebody and It's Only Love, Adams interpreted with Tina Turner have all climbed into the Billboard Hot 100.
Heaven has finally reached the first position of the ranking and It's Only Love won a Grammy Award nomination in the category best performance for a group or duo. Five times platinum in the United States, three times in the UK, the album was going to get the diamond certification in Canada.
Adams / Vallance was now one of the most popular names in the world of music, artists tearing services of these manufacturers success. They also shared in 1984 and 1985 Juno Award for Songwriter of the Year.
Their next adventure was going to be the album Into the Fire Adams would launch in 1987 with ten again written in collaboration pieces. Critically acclaimed, reaching platinum certification in the U.S. and triple platinum in Canada, this disc has not however repeated sales figures Reckless.
Divorce and Reconciliation
The record company would not like that though several pieces of Into the Fire are very different and more exploratory than the duo had signed in the past. Meanwhile, the singer was his partner spent too much time writing for others and songwriter, became a father, wanted to spend more time with his family.
Throughout the conflict, the pair still tried several times to write for the next album of Adams, but in 1989, Vallance finally told his partner that he no longer wished to work with him.
The divorce was heated, Adams and Vallance are addressing more the word for many years. During the 90s, the two have finally put their differences aside to renew their friendship but recover to write together.
It took until 2003 for Bryan Adams again asks his friend to write with him. Tonight We Have the Stars, Flower Grown Wild and Walk On By going to be engraved on the album 11 Bryan Adams, his last studio album launched in 2008.
Now retired, Vallance however continues to write from time to time. It adopted the pen to help Bang the Drum, the piece performed by Nelly Furtado and Bryan Adams ... at the opening ceremonies of the Vancouver Olympics in 2010, One World, One Flame, another Olympic piece Adams used the German and Austrian TV that year.
